The City of Burnside is adopting a new Community Engagement Policy and seeks community feedback on the draft document.

Section 50A of the Local Government Act 1999 (the Act) requires Council to create and adopt a new Community Engagement Policy.

This policy needs to follow the rules set out in the Act that includes the new Community Engagement Charter set out in Section 50, which was gazetted on 11 December 2025. At the same time, changes to the law introduced a new approach to how councils engage with their communities.

The proposed Community Engagement Policy replaces the previous Community Engagement and Consultation Policy to make sure Council meets the mandatory requirements of the Charter.

The new Policy clearly explains how Council will engage with the community, confirms Council’s commitment to meeting the mandatory requirements, and sets out who is responsible for deciding what engagement activities are needed.
